How It All Began - Part Three

ALTHOUGH a few months into my assault on the freelance market I was making money, I wasn't earning enough to give up my full-time job.
It was time to get some expert advice. I didn't pay thousands to employ a consultant. No, I scoured the library for books on freelance writing. I read them all from cover to cover, making copious notes.
From these books I learned how to sell myself, how to get writing commissions, how to approach editors, how to write a query letter, how to improve my writing and a million and one other skills that I use every day in my working life.
My acceptance letters doubled, then trebled and soon there weren't enough hours in the day for a full-time job and to get all my commissions completed to deadline.
Something had to give. It was no contest. I handed in my notice.
I can't pretend it wasn't a scary time but I can honestly say that I have never looked back. In the early days I occasionally worked for various old employers on a freelance basis, providing holiday or sickness cover.
However, it wasn't long before they couldn't afford me!
I now live exactly as I want. I could make more money if I wanted to... but I don't want to. I like my frequent holidays and spending time with my family too much to work long hours. I live in a beautiful house in a village, close to a wonderful country pub! I have lovely clothes, a classy car, eat well and have enough put by for an extremely comfortable retirement.
Your priorities will be different to mine, of course, but no matter how much or how little you want to earn, I can help you. I will share all my money-making secrets and tips with you. I will tell you how to organise and build a terrifically successful business.
Let's begin our journey....
